Cape Provider is a client utility mod that gives players capes and lets you decide exactly where those capes come from. Instead of relying on a single service, you can pick from several cape providers, put them in the order you prefer and adjust how the capes are applied in game.
It is an improved and reworked take on the older Capes mod. Integrating providers is easier, custom providers are fully supported, and the code base is written purely in Java, so no Kotlin library is required. Numerous fixes and smaller improvements come along with it.
The simplest way to get a personal cape is to drop a cape.png texture into the mod’s config folder. An optional owners file limits the cape to specific player names or UUIDs, and a name file changes how the provider is labelled. Modpacks can create several such providers in their own subfolders.
More advanced setups are possible too: remote providers can be defined in the configuration with URL templates that change per player, mod developers can hand out capes to supporters through their mod metadata, and built-in texture resolvers handle formats including animated capes. Textures should stay under 10MB, otherwise they may be ignored.
