BlueMap reads your Minecraft world files and produces far more than a flat overhead image: it generates 3D models of the entire world surface. A web app then renders them in the browser, so you can drop in close and look around as if you were standing in the world, or pull right back to take in the whole terrain at a glance.
It installs as a Paper, Purpur or Spigot plugin, and the same tool can also be run from the command line with no server involved at all. Rendering happens asynchronously and never blocks the main server thread directly, so as long as the CPU still has headroom, players should not notice a slowdown while a map is being built.
The plugin ships its own web server as core functionality. It is enabled by default, bound to every network interface on port 8100, and serves the map folder it generates, though it can be turned off in the config. Metrics reporting can be switched off there as well, and a range of third party addons and tools work with the rendered map.
