Vanilla Minecraft puts the first-person camera at a fixed point that has nothing to do with your character’s body. Real Camera binds it to a part of the player model instead and renders the model itself in first person, so you see your own body rather than a pair of floating hands. Because the camera follows the model, whatever moves the body moves the view with it.
Position and rotation of the camera are adjustable. F6 toggles the whole feature on or off, further hotkeys adjust the camera while you play, and a config screen handles the rest. A dedicated model view screen makes the binding visual: hold left Alt to click a face of the model or scroll through its layers, switch between forward vector, upward vector and target plane, then open the preview section to see how camera and model relate to each other, make final adjustments and save the result under a name.
Most mod models can be supported this way, but each needs configuring by hand, so saved configs can be given a priority, with the higher ones sitting further up the list. When a model part such as hair keeps blocking the view, the disable section hides the parts you mark, and turning depth off in the preview section also hides models that get in the way. The mod needs Fabric API, and Cloth Config API is recommended for the config screen.
Compatibility is listed as good with most camera mods and player model mods, including Not Enough Animations, ParCool!, Pehkui, First-person Model and Player Animation Lib. OptiFine, Customizable Player Models and armors based on GeckoLib are named as incompatible, while Armourer’s Workshop and Epic Fight depend on the mod version you run, so keep that in mind when planning a modpack around it.
