Particle Rain swaps Minecraft’s flat weather textures for particle-driven effects that react to the world around them. Rain falls at an angle as though it is being pushed by wind, and that wind is stronger during stormy weather, while snow drifts down with a slow rotation instead of dropping in straight lines.
Beyond rain and snow the mod layers in extra atmosphere. Dust and shrubs blow through deserts and other dry biomes during sandstorms and match the colour of the block below, ripples appear where rain falls onto water, streaks show up where rain hits a wall made of a hard material, and moisture hangs in the air in wet or spooky biomes and after rainfall. Rain and water particles also match the biome’s water tint, which is a far stronger colour than vanilla biomes show.
Everything is adjustable from an in-game menu, opened with the /particlerain command or from your loader’s mod list, where effects can be disabled, added or customised for specific blocks and biomes. A haze effect exists for each weather type but stays off by default, since it can look odd with some shader packs or perform poorly on older systems. Because the snow and rain textures are generated from the game’s own weather textures, resource packs keep working without shipping extra particle textures, and packs can add or override effects with their own particle definitions.
