In vanilla Minecraft a bucket of axolotl always shows the same icon, whatever is actually swimming inside it. Axolotl Buckets changes that by giving each bucketed axolotl an icon drawn to match its color variant, so a chest full of buckets can be read at a glance and a hard-won blue axolotl stands out from the rest of the collection.
The icons also tell babies apart from adults, which means a blue baby axolotl finally looks the part in the inventory and is worth showing off. The mod runs entirely on the client, so it changes only what you see in your own inventory.
A built-in resource pack called Smaller Axolotl Buckets ships alongside the mod for players who already use the Smaller Utilities pack from Vanilla Tweaks. It is switched on from the Resource Packs screen like any other pack and is listed under the mod’s own logo, so the smaller bucket sprites stay consistent with the rest of the tidied-up icons.
