Cave Dust adds a small but effective piece of atmosphere to Minecraft’s underground: the white ash particle normally seen in the Basalt Deltas biome now drifts through caves, tunnels and mineshafts. The reasoning behind it is simple — the air in a real mineshaft would never be completely clear, and now it is not.
The effect is driven by two checks. The mod looks at the player’s sky exposure and at whether they are below sea level, then scales the amount of particles based on depth, so the deeper you dig the more dust hangs in the air. Lush Caves are left out on purpose, since that biome already has particles of its own.
Settings live in a config screen reached through Mod Menu, and most of them can be changed while the game is running; swapping the particle for a different one means opening the config file by hand. Fabric API is required, but everything else the mod needs is already included, so there is nothing more to add on Minecraft 1.21.1.
