Gliding with an elytra normally leaves nothing behind, so long flights over an open world look flat no matter how fast you are moving. This mod draws accurate contrails straight from the elytra, so every dive, climb and turn leaves a visible line through the sky and your flight path becomes something you and everyone else can actually follow.
The effect is meant to be tuned rather than simply switched on. Both the shape and the length of the trail can be adjusted from the configuration screen, and a separate set of default options decides how players who do not have the mod installed are rendered on your side, so the sky never fills with mismatched effects.
Multiplayer behaviour is handled carefully. The mod has to be present on the server before players can see each other’s customised trails and twirling, and if you would rather keep your look to yourself there is a switch that stops your settings from being sent at all, plus another that hides your trails from other players entirely. Even on a server without the mod your own contrails still show up correctly.
Resource pack authors get their own hook. If a custom elytra model is built with EMF, adding bones whose names contain leftWingTip and rightWingTip tells the mod exactly where the trails should start, and a single bone called trailSpawner is enough when the distinction between the two wings does not matter. Those bones can even be left empty.
