FirstAid replaces the single vanilla health bar with eight separate health regions, giving your head, body, legs and feet their own pool of hit points. Damage is tracked per body part, and you die the moment your head or body drops to zero, which makes every fight in Minecraft a far more careful affair.
Healing works differently too. Bandages and plaster are used straight from the inventory, and right-clicking them opens an interface where you pick exactly which body part to treat. Injured limbs carry consequences: damaged feet leave you with constant slowness, while a hard enough hit to the head can bring on blindness or nausea for a short time. Morphine keeps those debuffs at bay while it is active, though the constant ones reappear once the effect runs out.
Armor is recalculated to match the new system. Only the piece protecting the body part that was hit counts toward damage reduction, and because a helmet carries a much lower armor value than a chestplate, those numbers are multiplied by a factor. Protecting your head and body becomes the top priority. Keep in mind that vanilla health regeneration is switched off by default and stays off even if the mod is later removed, though it can be turned back on in the config or with the naturalRegeneration game rule.
