Hopo Better Ruined Portals reworks the ruined portals scattered through your world into the wreckage of a piglin invasion. Legend has it that piglins once invaded the overworld, and the ruins left behind by that war are far more interesting to look at than what you are used to finding.
Searching them is worth the detour. The ruins hold obsidian, armor pieces carrying trims and weapons, and the gravel around each site can be brushed and investigated like an archaeology dig for the better prizes: custom banners, potions, mob heads, pottery sherds and other rarities.
Exploring stops being only about the destination. Every ruined portal you stumble across becomes a small landmark worth picking apart, a piece of the story of what the piglins were plotting in the past, and a chance at loot you would otherwise have walked straight past.
