Village Names turns the plain settlements of older Minecraft versions into places with an identity of their own. Every village generated in the world is given a randomized name that is displayed on custom name signs, and villagers, other selected entities and several structures can carry names as well.
At its core sits a rebuilt village generator that lays down roads using blocks other than gravel, including backported Grass Path blocks on 1.7, and draws from both backported and custom village components. Village size, the component list and the syllable pools that feed the name generator are all open to configuration, and each settlement also picks its own banner and preferred color.
A large part of the mod is dedicated to backporting. Cartographer and Nitwit villagers, Concrete, Glazed Terracotta, Guardians, Monuments, Prismarine and Igloos reach versions that never shipped them, and villagers receive biome-based skin tones together with modular outfits tied to biome and profession. Librarians and Cartographers trade from reworked pools with extra treasure offers, and handing them emeralds along with iron or gold can yield the Codex, the item that names supported structures outside villages; it also turns up as chest loot.
