Mining in Minecraft is mostly a rhythm of holding down a button, and this mod interrupts that rhythm with something you actually play. Rare excavation spots generate in stone, deepslate, sandstone, netherrack and other blocks; occasionally one gives off a faint sparkle, and interacting with it opens an excavation rather than breaking the block. The mechanic takes its cue from the Pokémon Underground.
An excavation is a hidden wall structure you dig into layer by layer. Buried items sit somewhere inside, and every action costs stability: the precise tool clears a single tile, while the heavier tool clears a wider area for a bigger stability hit. Let stability reach zero and the wall collapses, taking whatever you had not yet uncovered with it. Rarely you will find large, very large and huge deposits that hold considerably more and rarer items, and later versions include a remastered underground soundtrack.
The rewards adapt to the pack you are playing. In a vanilla world an excavation can yield diamonds, netherite scraps, enchanted golden apples and music discs. With Cobblemon and Mega Showdown installed, the same walls can contain fossils, evolution stones, relic statues, crown fragments, Mega Stones, Key Stones and Tera Shards. One JSON config controls sparkle frequency, wall stability scaling, loot tables and rarity, server-specific settings such as spawn radius, and the rare spots, and items from other mods can be folded into the tables as well.
