Armor trims are normally something you apply yourself at a smithing table, which means the armor you find out in the world always looks exactly like the last piece. Naturally Trimmed changes that by decorating gear before it ever reaches your hands. Mobs that spawn carrying equipment arrive with it already trimmed, so what you pick up after a night-time fight in Minecraft finally has some character.
The same treatment reaches loot tables and trading. Chests generated in structures – blacksmiths, bastions, end cities and the rest – can hand you trimmed pieces, and piglin bartering feeds from the same system. On the trading side, villagers and wandering traders offer trimmed armor, and traders added by other mods are covered too, so a modded village economy benefits without any extra setup.
Trimming is not limited to armor either. With Trimmable Tools or the Tool Trims Mod installed, pickaxes, swords and other tools take patterns as well, extending the decoration across your whole kit. Everything is optional: each part of the mod has a config entry, and Yet Another Config Lib gives you a proper settings screen in game if you would rather not edit files. The mod is written to stay out of the way of other content, so it slots into large packs without fuss.
