Nyctophobia adds seven dark, foggy and deliberately unsettling biomes to Overworld generation, for players who want exploration to feel more thrilling and challenging. Every biome was built with close attention to detail, and all of them are made from vanilla blocks alone: no new blocks, items or mobs are introduced, which keeps texture packs and other worldgen mods working as normal.
The Haunted Forest is a damp spruce woodland wrapped in dense fog, strung with cobwebs and lit by soul lights between the trunks, while the Eroded Haunted Forest is what remains after strong winds took out the trees, a barren wasteland left to the deadliest creatures. Haunted Lakes floods a swamp with blood red water and candlelit shores, and the treeless Marshlands mix shallow pools, mud banks and mangrove roots with frogs, slimes and witches. Burnt Forest leaves charred logs and stripped trunks patrolled by skeletons and wither skeletons, Deep Dark Forest shades mossy ground under giant red mushrooms, and Dead Coral Reef turns a beach into bleached coral and dead fans.
Four of the biomes carry their own volumetric-looking fog that fades in as you cross the border and fades back out as you leave, and it never overrides the vanilla view underwater, in lava or under blindness. The fog is a purely visual client-side effect, so each player can switch it on or off with a simple command, even on a server.
A single config file, in the same format on every loader, controls where the biomes end up. You choose which vanilla biome each one replaces, point them at biomes from other mods by their full id, disable individual biomes and tune the overall weight against vanilla generation. Fog can be adjusted per biome by density and by the height band it appears in, and Haunted Lakes can use soul lanterns instead of candles. TerraBlender is required for the biomes to generate at all.
