Dark Utilities is a broad content mod that adds a little of everything on top of the vanilla game. Rather than building one deep system, it drops a collection of blocks and items meant to be useful in a wide range of situations while introducing mechanics that are fun to play with, and each one carries a tooltip explaining in a sentence what it actually does.
Vector Plates are the headline block: flat, rotatable plates that push mobs and other entities in the direction they face. Mobs can still spawn on top of them, which is exactly why they became a favourite for moving spawns through a mob farm. Mob Filters pair with them neatly, since these blocks only let certain mob types pass through, so a hostile filter lets a zombie through and stops everything else. The Player Damage Plate completes the setup by dealing player damage to anything that walks onto it.
Away from farms, the Sleep Charm quietly cancels insomnia while it stays in your inventory, which keeps phantoms from spawning and puts you to sleep the moment you climb into a bed. The Redstone Randomizer brings unpredictability to circuits, switching itself on and off at random and emitting a redstone signal while it is on. These are only a small sample of what is included, as the mod adds many more blocks and items than the highlights suggest.
