MegaCrit used its October Neowsletter, posted October 30, to finally pin down a release window for Slay the Spire 2’s next big content drop. After months of teasing “experimental” features without a firm date, the studio says the update is set to hit the experimental beta branch on November 12, 2026.
The team explained that the delay came down to scope. These are features that were on the Early Access roadmap since launch, but the studio only started dedicating full focus to them a couple of months ago. Big systems like this need design, art, animation and balancing passes before they’re even stable enough for beta testing, so they couldn’t be rushed out alongside regular bugfix patches.
MegaCrit is staying tight-lipped on specifics, saying the new content will land with more impact if they say less about it now. What they did confirm is that new game modes are part of the package, and they’ll work for both singleplayer and multiplayer. The update will debut on the beta branch first so the team can iron out balance issues before folding it into the main branch along with everything already live in the current beta version, v0.111.0.
WePlay 2026 appearance
Part of the MegaCrit team is also heading to Shanghai for WePlay 2026. There will be a Slay the Spire 2 booth running demos, exclusive merch, interactive elements built with CiGA, plus a Q&A and fan signing session with lead developer Casey. The event runs November 21 to 22, 2026.
Q&A notes and merch
In the newsletter’s Q&A section, Casey mentioned that Custom Runs will likely get a pass closer to the 1.0 launch, and that controller support and text size limits mean “desktop players and mods will get the most flexibility” for deeper customization options down the line. Additional Acts were also described as being in development.
On the merch side, MegaCrit rounded up several community collaborations, including Makeship plushies of Mini Regent and Necrobinder with pre-orders extended to November 7, a new Fangamer tee and deskmat, new Yetee prints, and a first-ever GoodSmile Nendoroid figure of The Defect.
What it means for modders
Since Slay the Spire 2 is still in Early Access and this update will first live only on the beta branch, anyone running mods should expect a window where mod compatibility splits between branches. Once the content rolls into the main branch, mods tied to specific game versions or card data may need updates, so back up your save files and mod folders before switching branches or updating.
