ETS2 Iceland DLC: Ferry Routes and Clear Water Detailed

SCS Software shared new details on October 31 about how truckers will actually reach Iceland once the Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 launches on November 10. Since there’s no road link between the island and the rest of the map, the whole thing runs on ferries.

There are three ways in. The first sails from Hirtshals in Denmark to Seyðisfjörður, a small village tucked into the fjords of eastern Iceland, based on a real Smyril Line route. The second connects Rotterdam’s Europoort to Þorlákshöfn on Iceland’s southwest coast. That one is a freight-only service in real life, run by Smyril Line Cargo, but SCS turned it into a regular passenger-style ferry so players can bring trucks and trailers along.

The third route, from Ålesund in Norway to Seyðisfjörður, doesn’t exist in reality. SCS added it to give players another option and to tie newer parts of the map together. The studio also pointed to the old maritime link between Norway and Iceland, going back to ninth-century settlers, as the inspiration. Opening this route also unlocks the Ålesund ferry port, which had been closed to players until now.

Getting around once you’re there

Iceland gets its own internal ferry too, running between Stykkishólmur and Brjánslækur across Breiðafjörður bay, an area known for its islands and bird colonies. It’s also a shortcut around the twisty sections of Route 60 in the northwest.

Transparent water arrives with the DLC

Iceland will be the first place in Euro Truck Simulator 2 to get transparent water, letting players see rocks and terrain under the surface in shallow spots. SCS also added foam effects for fast-moving rivers. Both features will show up across dozens of locations on the new map, and the studio said more areas of the game will get the same treatment over time.

One practical note from SCS: ferry trips for a truck and trailer aren’t cheap, so budget for it before planning routes. Players who’d rather skip the sailing can use Quick Travel to jump straight to their Iceland garage.

What this means for ETS2 players running mods

Anyone running map mods, traffic packs or trailer mods should expect some compatibility checks once the DLC lands on November 10. New ferry terminals and the transparent water tech could touch shared game files, so it’s worth backing up your mod folder and checking for updates from mod authors after release. If you use heavy traffic density or custom AI ferry mods, keep an eye out for conflicts with the new Iceland ferry connections specifically, since those are new systems rather than reused ones.
