Malum is a dark magic mod centered on spirit arcana, the mod’s own grim take on the study of soul magic, split into several interpretations of that strange field. Everything is taught through the Encyclopedia Arcana, a journal written by an unknown author that covers everything required to make a start. The codex is deliberately open ended, with very little restriction on the order you work through it, so you can chase whichever part of the magic interests you first and leave the rest for later.
Two systems sit at the center of play. Spirit infusion is the core process for using spirit arcana, the magical route through which all sorts of miracles are made, while spirit focusing lets you materialize new resources out of thin air from raw spirit matter. Totem magic runs alongside them and hands every spirit its own rituals to draw on.
The world you gather in changes as well. Runewood trees mix nature with magic, their bark grown for arcana and backed by a full set of wood blocks, while the underground holds ores such as cthonic gold, soulstone and natural quartz among others left for you to discover. What you build from them covers trinkets, armor, tools and weapons, with every trinket and armor set carrying its own unique effect and some pieces offering synergy potential. The mod runs on NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1 and needs Lodestone and the Curios API installed alongside it.
