Grave Robber changes what happens the moment you die. Instead of a marker left quietly where you fell, a skeleton spawns on the exact spot, named after you, wearing the armor you died in, swinging your weapon and holding the item you had out last. Everything you were carrying, items and experience alike, goes with it.
Getting your gear back therefore means winning a fight rather than simply collecting it. The skeleton stays put and never despawns, so however long the trip back takes, the rematch is still standing there. Win it and the full inventory comes back in one go, experience included.
That single change makes death a genuine setback without turning it into a total loss. It suits survival worlds that find plain gravestones too forgiving but do not want the harshness of losing everything, and the mod stays small and focused on this one mechanic for the Fabric loader.
