Sanity: Descent Into Madness gives you a second bar to worry about beside health and hunger. Sanity stands for your mental state, taking the idea from the Don’t Starve survival formula into Minecraft, and failing to keep it high has drastic consequences for survival rather than being a cosmetic effect.
As the meter drops the world stops behaving. You start hearing and seeing things that are not there, your vision turns muddy and blurry and your mind goes cloudy, until inner entities created by your own head step out and attack. Certain mobs also change how they treat you once your mental condition becomes unstable, and a full collapse can end the run.
There are multiple ways to lose sanity and multiple ways to restore it, so recovery is always on the table. An early answer is a garland crafted from any small flowers you pick up along the way, a small accessory that keeps you sane for longer, although it withers far quicker if you spend time in water.
The whole system is highly configurable, down to dimension-specific settings, so each dimension can be tuned with its own sanity rules. This build runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.20.x and needs GeckoLib alongside it.
