The vanilla swamp is one of the emptiest biomes in Minecraft, and Swampier Swamps exists to fix exactly that. It replaces the swamp’s world generation, improves the features introduced in the Wild Update and adds a set of new mechanics on top, turning the biome into somewhere worth settling. Swamp villages generate, bald cypress trees join the tree line and can be planted from oak saplings placed in a two by two shape, and mud puddles, decaying logs and extra plants break up the ground.
Frogs get the most attention. There are thirteen new variants, each with its own frog light block, and you collect them the vanilla way by raising a tadpole in the matching biome. Spawn rules live in editable json files, frog-related advancements were adjusted to account for the extra variants, and frog lights now bounce a little like slime blocks. Frogs also drop one or two frog legs, which take over the Potion of Leaping recipe while rabbit feet brew a Potion of Luck instead.
The water line is busier too. Big and small lily pads grow back as a renewable resource, the small ones need shears to harvest, and standing on one makes it sink after a delay you can tune. Cattail can be grown by using bonemeal underwater in a swamp, swamp vines take the place of ordinary vines there and creep down into the water, and decaying kelp generates naturally below the surface or forms from kelp blocks left to rot. Harvested decaying kelp is used to create fertile farmland, on which crops grow noticeably faster.
Swamp gas is the standout addition: green clouds produced by decaying kelp that sit over the water. An empty bottle collects it, and the bottles craft into gas lamps with a redstone-driven brightness range. Walking into a cloud gives you negative effects, which can be disabled, and a burning projectile will detonate it with an explosion whose size is up to you. Dragonflies buzz around in a few variants and sizes, and almost every number in the mod, from explosion size to farmland water range, is exposed in the config.
