The vanilla Wither hits hard for a few seconds and then tends to drift up out of reach, leaving you to chip at it from a hole in the ground. Withering Heights rebuilds the encounter around explosions and chaos, closer in spirit to its Bedrock cousin, and keeps the boss down where it can actually be hit.
The numbers change first. Health climbs from 300 points to a full 600, and the boss gains 20 armour points with 10 armour toughness, although there are ways to strip those defences during the battle. From there the fight runs in two phases across five new attacks: a rain of skulls from high overhead, a charging retreat that ends in a detonation, an aerial slam that leaves the Wither briefly stunned, a spark-trailing chase with periodic blasts, and homing projectiles that explode on contact.
Presentation received the same attention. Boss music kicks in when the Wither is spawned, a splash line greets every player in range, the boss gets a proper death animation, and the dropped Nether Star hums quietly until you collect it. That star also feeds a new craftable weapon. Full diamond armour with some blast protection and a shield makes sensible preparation, and the fight is best held well away from anything you would hate to lose.
