Alex’s Mobs is a large creature expansion that drops 89 new animals into Minecraft’s biomes. Most of them are real-world species — grizzly bears, roadrunners, orcas, gorillas, crocodiles and elephants among them — while a smaller group is purely fictional, from the Bone Serpent and Endergrade to the Void Worm. Models, textures, animations and AI are all built to match the style of the vanilla game’s newer additions, so the extra wildlife blends into the world instead of standing out.
None of the creatures are purely decorative. Each one has its own drops, mechanics or function, and those drops feed recipes for unique weapons, arrows, potions and armor with special effects. Following vanilla’s own rules, rare or endangered animals never have to be killed for their items: species like the Komodo Dragon and Hammerhead Shark hand them over when they perform a specific action instead. Most mobs are neutral by default and only turn on you if you come too close or strike first, though the fantastical ones are usually hostile from the start.
The first time you load a world with the mod installed you receive the Animal Dictionary, a compact in-game guide documenting every creature and what its drops are good for; if it is lost, a vanilla book, a green dye and any item from the mod will make another. Spawning is deeply configurable — biome registry names, biome categories, biome dictionary entries and dimension tags can all be targeted — which makes this a comfortable fit for modpacks that already add their own biomes, dimensions and mobs.
