Serious Player Animations is a client-side mod that gives the player character a set of new, more expressive animations. Everything runs on your own machine, so the character on screen simply looks and moves better while the rest of the game keeps behaving exactly as it did before.
The mod is built to sit alongside the animation mods most players already run. Fresh Animations and Eating Animations both work with it, and Not Enough Animations has been supported since version 1.1.1. Two libraries have to be present for the animations to load at all: playerAnimator and Cloth Config.
Custom animation work is supported as well. Animations shipped inside a resource pack are read by the mod as long as they use the player animator or Emotecraft format, so pack authors can extend the bundled set with their own, and a template resource pack is available as a starting point. The one known limitation is that the custom animations added by many other mods are incompatible with it.
