Dragon Mounts 2 turns a dragon egg into a full progression loop. You find a good place for it, put the egg block down and right-click it to begin hatching, then wait while the dragon works its way from egg to hatchling, juvenile and finally adult. Only a grown dragon can be tamed, so the early stage is about protecting your investment.
Once the dragon is fully grown, any meat is enough to tame it, and from then on it behaves like a loyal pet that follows you and defends you in a fight. A saddle makes it rideable, and the W, A, S and D keys handle steering, so a tamed dragon doubles as a way to cross terrain. A whistle or the dragon’s inventory screen tells it to lay down or stand up when you want it to stay put.
Keeping a dragon alive is straightforward: raw fish, chicken, beef and porkchop each restore four hearts, and rotten flesh restores two. On top of the mobs themselves, the mod adds new equipment, tools and armor, so the reward for raising a dragon extends past the mount itself.
Dragon nests are generated all over the world, including in the Nether and the End, which gives exploration a clear goal. With cheats enabled, the /dragon state command sets the dragon you are looking at to egg, hatchling, juvenile or adult, which is useful when you want to see a specific stage without waiting for it.
