Working out where mobs can spawn used to mean counting light levels by hand. More Overlays Updated puts that information back on screen: press F7 and every block that monsters could use gets marked, a yellow X for spots that only turn dangerous at night and a red X for spots where spawning is always possible. It is the fastest way to light up a base, a farm or a safe pathway in Minecraft without leaving gaps.
The second overlay handles chunk alignment. F9 cycles through three modes: the first draws red lines in the chunk corners with a yellow line through the centre, the second adds a green grid along the chunk edges, and the third widens out to outline an entire region and prints the name of the matching region save file in the top left corner. That last mode is genuinely useful when you are pruning a world or tracking down which file holds a build.
The third piece is an inventory item search that works when JEI is installed, since it borrows the JEI search algorithm. Double-click the search field and every item in the open inventory that fails the filter is blacked out, leaving only the matches visible – and custom named items are matched as well, so a labelled container or a renamed tool is just as easy to find. The whole mod runs client side, and options are edited from the mods config screen or straight in the moreoverlays config file.
