Ships brings a new kind of dungeon to the open water. Illager vessels designed to look like shipwrecks sit out on the sea, crewed by pillagers and vindicators and stocked with loot in the spirit of shipwreck treasure. They generate in a range of wood types, and the maps you pull out of them point you toward pillager outposts.
Fleets raise the stakes considerably. Several ships sit together as one structure, each one carrying an evoker, and illagers keep spawning on them until every last evoker is dead. Clear a fleet and the maps aboard lead you on to a woodland mansion.
The other half of the mod plays out on the water itself. Any illager that ends up in the sea gets into a boat and patrols the nearby ocean, breaking off to chase any enemy it spots. Ships spawn with a few of these patrols around them and fleets with even more, so boarding turns into a fight before you set foot on deck. This boat behaviour is experimental and can be demanding on performance, so a gamerule function is included to limit it or switch it off entirely.
