Alex’s Caves adds six new cave biomes to the Minecraft Overworld and makes you work to find them. The Magnetic Caves, Primordial Caves, Toxic Caves, Abyssal Chasm, Forlorn Hollows and Candy Cavity are all exceedingly rare compared with normal biomes, and each one carries its own blocks, items, mobs and mechanics, which turns them into subterranean destinations worth preparing an expedition for.
The way in is an Underground Cabin, which can be discovered anywhere in the Overworld. Its loot barrels contain cave tablets and the Cave Compendium, an in-game guide book that provides the knowledge needed to find and explore every biome the mod adds, so getting started is taught inside the game instead of leaving you to guess where to dig.
This is a large mod with a great deal of effort put into the look and feel of each biome. Every one of them can have its own ambient particles, fog, brightness and light colour, which is why it is recommended to play without shaders, since many shader packs alter or worsen that carefully built appearance. Built-in compatibility with Just Enough Items and Alex’s Mobs is included as well.
