The Better Animations Collection reworks Minecraft’s in-game models so that parts which normally sit rigid start to move. The aim is atmosphere rather than spectacle: simulated physics, secondary motion, and small signs of life added to the mobs you walk past every day without a second thought.
The list of changes runs long. Ghast tentacles are divided into parts so they wiggle as the mob drifts, while squids gain a jellyfish-like swimming animation with tentacles that flow as they move. Wolves get fluffier tails that wag as they stand and run, lie down instead of sitting once tamed, and roll over when you hold out meat. Cats and ocelots trade stiff sticks for animated tails that curl around the body when a cat sits. Pigs move their snouts as they oink and gain floaty ears, cow udders wobble while they walk, and chickens get a slimmer bill that opens and closes when they cluck, with swinging wattles, a bobbing head and a little wing flap while they strut.
Hostile mobs are covered just as thoroughly. Slime interiors flow like liquid with the eyes, mouth and core all moving independently, magma cubes collapse into a pile of steaming patties on death, spiders and cave spiders finally have knees, and endermen flail their arms wildly while chasing a target. Creepers get the full wobble, zombie-like and piglin-like mobs bend their knees as they walk, sheep lower their whole body to eat grass, horses regain the mouths and knees they had in older versions, snowmen swing their arm as they throw a snowball, and llamas open their mouths when they spit.
Every animation is constructed from vanilla resources, with no additional textures used anywhere, so resource packs keep working exactly as they did before. The mod installs on the client only, and the individual pieces can be configured, including the extra detail on cow udders for anyone who would rather leave it out. This build targets NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1 and weighs just 0.16 MB.
