Dynamic Trees is built on foliage that grows and falls dynamically instead of sitting in the world as static blocks. Dynamic Trees Plus is the official extension that takes the same idea to plants that are not trees at all, so deserts, badlands and mushroom biomes get the same treatment as a dynamic forest.
The cactus side brings four species, each with its own look. Saguaro cacti populate the badlands and grow fruit that becomes edible once it opens, while pillar and pipe cacti add variety to deserts. Their behaviour is closer to vanilla berry bushes: they slow you down and prick you only while you move against them, and they no longer destroy items on contact. Both of those changes can be switched back in the config for players who prefer the original rules.
Huge mushrooms grow and fall like dynamic trees, in red and brown varieties plus mega versions that spawn naturally in mushroom fields and can also be obtained with potions of gigas. Fell one with a silk touch axe and you keep the stem and mushroom blocks, otherwise you get the mushroom items. Occasional spore particles under the caps and their bouncy surface give the biome a mystical feel.
Planting works the same way as in the base mod, with every species having its own item. Cacti keep their seeds, while mushrooms use caps as the planting item, since caps carry the spores and are easier to tell apart in the inventory. None of this works without the Dynamic Trees mod itself.
