World generation in recent versions received a large overhaul, but the result still rarely feels like standing among real mountains. Epic Terrain rewrites the terrain rules outright, so worlds are built around genuine plains and towering alpine peaks that you can see rising on the horizon.
The surface is smoothed and shaped as though it had been eroded over time, and landmasses form in continental plate patterns rather than scattered blobs. Coastlines get the same treatment: eroded inlets, enclosed seas, narrow straits, offshore islands and long peninsulas all appear where land meets water.
Rivers are handled by a new system covering both large and small watercourses, each with a source and a drop that carries water downhill. Because the scale is measured against reality, worlds are enormous and a single ocean can stretch across ten thousand tiles, which makes a map preview tool well worth using before you settle on a seed.
This is an experimental terrain rewrite rather than a compatibility-first pack. The biome distribution is rebuilt from scratch, so mods that add new biomes will generally not fit, while mods that only adjust the vanilla ones can still be used. It ships as a datapack, which keeps the download tiny compared with the size of the worlds it produces, and it covers Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
