Caelum – ArdaCraft Edition rebuilds the Minecraft night sky around real astronomy. Stars are drawn from a texture with more realistic colours, and their positions have been recalculated from stellar data to take each star’s proper motion into account, so the sky overhead appears approximately as it would have in the time period of Arda.
The sun gets the same treatment. Its position is approximated for the player’s latitude as well as the Earth’s axial tilt at solstices and equinoxes, with a further correction for the precession of the planet’s axis. Extra layers were added to the skybox render as well, which makes room for clouds and other overlays sitting on top of the star field.
This edition also adds skybox and fog rendering that kicks in conditionally for Moria on ArdaCraft. FabricSkyBoxes and Iris Shaders are both required. A shader pack will pick up the custom sun and moon positions if it uses the proper methods Iris provides, but every shader implementation is different, so results vary from pack to pack.
