Cynosure is a library mod rather than a content mod: it exists to hand developers a large shared toolbox instead of adding anything visible to the world. It is built from the ground up on Kotlin, using that language’s many features and technologies, which is why it is described as a Kotlin only library.
The APIs stretch across most of what a mod needs day to day. There is a giant event API, separate rendering and model APIs, a render attachment API, and Kotlin extension APIs for items and blocks. Networking, particles and colours each get an API of their own, while recipes and network packets can be described through codecs.
A large part of the value sits in the abstractions. Cynosure wraps both the Fabric API and Forge behind one multiplatform layer and adds utilities for working with loaded mods, so a project written against it can target more than one loader. The library still works in a Java only setup, though that is not recommended and a lot of its utilities and advantages are lost that way, and this build runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric and Quilt.
