Armored Elytra removes the usual chest slot compromise in Minecraft, where you either fly or stay protected. Any chestplate can be joined with an elytra at an anvil to produce one combined item that keeps both roles, and the pairing is not permanent: dropping the result into a grindstone splits it and returns the two original items, so nothing is lost if you want your chestplate back.
The mod is built to be server friendly. Every rule about how the combined item works is evaluated on the server, which means the feature functions for anyone connected, and installing on the client is only about how things look. With the client side present the elytra and the chestplate both render on the player model, in the inventory, in third person and on armor stands, and the item icon shows the armor type together with its trim or leather color with the elytra sitting behind it.
Combined icons no longer depend on a bundled resource pack, because the rendering code itself now layers the two item textures, one sitting slightly above the other. Any texture pack works as a result, whatever its size, though some icon sets may line up less neatly. Compatibility has also been checked against Advanced Netherite, Elytra Trims and Detail Armor Bar Reconstructed, as well as the Stellarity and Vanilla Tweaks armored elytra datapacks, which keep their own item attributes and combined rendering on the forged elytra.
