Flight in Minecraft sits behind the End, which means the early and middle parts of a world are spent walking around terrain instead of over it. Gliders closes that gap with a deliberately balanced item that helps you cross valleys, explore caves and survive a step off a cliff, without feeling as overpowered as a pair of wings. Five tiers run from a wooden glider for first experiments through iron and gold, up to diamond for serious durability and netherite for the longest flight time in the mod.
Crafting starts with reinforced paper, a new material made by combining ordinary paper with leather, iron, gold, diamond or netherite scrap depending on how strong you want the finished glider to be. Once you are in the air, heat becomes a resource: wind particles rise from fire and magma, and riding those updrafts gives a real boost in height that carries you over rough ground. Hotter dimensions are harsher, and a glider needs the right upgrades before it can handle them.
Weather cuts the other way. The metal parts make a glider a target in a storm, and a static tingle is the warning that a lightning strike is coming to drop you out of the sky and likely break the glider. Repairs happen at a smithing table using a fresh piece of reinforced paper that matches the original material, but durability that reaches zero is gone for good, so Mending and Unbreaking are worth putting on anything you fly regularly.
Presentation was clearly part of the design. First and third person animations make gliding feel cinematic in both singleplayer and multiplayer, and an optional Glider Perspective setting in the Controls panel switches the camera to third person while you fly. It is turned off by default, which suits players still learning the basics, while experienced pilots often treat it as essential. The gliders are also styled to sit well next to Create contraptions, and Curios support lets a glider be worn as an accessory instead of taking up a chestplate slot.
