Fire in Minecraft has always been a slightly disappointing thing. It behaves badly, takes whatever it touches and gives nothing back. Burnt Basic rebuilds that behaviour from the ground up: light a block and it genuinely burns rather than disappearing, and once the flames have passed, wooden structures and trees are still standing as charred, twisted versions of themselves that you can harvest for resources.
Getting a fire going is half the appeal. Flint and steel is finally worth carrying, but a flame-enchanted bow, a poured bucket of lava or a lightning strike all work too, and a placed Fire Barrel gives you something to set off from a safe distance. From there blocks smolder, catch and spread through visible stages, with smoke, embers and ash filling the air and distant plumes marking fires far across the map. An integrated wind system decides which way and how fiercely a blaze travels, flags let you read that wind before you strike a spark, and biomes matter as well, since hot and dry ground burns wider than cold and wet ground.
Putting a fire out is treated as a proper part of the mod rather than an afterthought. A fire extinguisher can be discovered or crafted, wind charges smother flames, rain dampens the spread and iron golems will pitch in when a village is threatened. Everything is fully configurable, and if a test burn gets away from you there is an emergency killFire command.
