Transit Railway is for players who would rather run a city than mine one. In place of hand-pushed minecarts it hands you automated trains, boats, cable cars and planes that follow the routes you lay out, so an entire metro line, ferry service or airport shuttle keeps running on its own while you carry on building the next stretch of network.
The current generation of the mod is a complete rewrite from scratch, and the biggest change is architectural: the vehicle simulation code was separated from the Minecraft instance itself. That takes a large slice of work off the server and greatly reduces lag on Minecraft servers, backed up by client-side frame rate gains and server-side tick rate gains so that a busy interchange stays smooth with several lines moving at once.
Rolling stock is highly configurable. Trains can be set up to your own specification, ride on realistic bogies with proper movement and a subtle swaying effect, and are kept apart by an improved signalling system. Sideways elevators push station design past the usual vertical shaft, while OBJ model features brought over from Noo’s Transit Expansion widen what custom models can look like.
There is a passenger information layer as well. A new online system map comes with OneBusAway integration, which makes a large server network readable to the people riding it. Several add-ons build further on the mod, though each one has to match the version you have installed, and the mod is not updated for older Minecraft versions.
