Riding a horse in vanilla Minecraft comes with a long list of small frustrations, and Horseman works through nearly all of them. Mounted movement, camera control, inventory handling and the mounted HUD are all reworked, so a horse becomes a practical way to cross the world instead of something you leave standing in a stable.
Getting a horse to stay put takes a single click: while mounted, clicking a fence hitches the animal to it using a Lead kept in an extra slot added to the horse inventory, and that Lead remains in place when the knot is removed or broken. A Copper Horn can be bound to a horse with Sneak and Use, after which a simple toot calls that mount from anywhere in the world, and each horse recognises its own owner so several players can safely use the same sound. Horses also swim when you press jump in water, and they fit inside boats.
The riding itself feels different. Step height is raised by ten percent so a path leading up to a full block no longer stops you, leaves get in the way far less, mining speed stays at ground level while mounted, and the jitter that used to throw you back on stairs is fixed. The camera keeps your looking direction when you mount and rotates the horse instead, it can move up to 100 degrees on its own while the horse stands still, and the horse almost disappears when you look down so you can watch your step.
Convenience features round it out: a button and a hotkey swap between your inventory and the horse’s, the jumping meter only appears while jumping, the hunger bar stays visible, and shears take a chest off a Donkey, Mule or Llama without killing it. Because donkeys, mules, llamas and camels count as abstract horses in the game’s own code, most of these features apply to them as well, and everything can be adjusted in the config.
