Functional Storage is an alternative take on the drawer storage solution, keeping the familiar blocks but giving them an updated look and a set of functionalities the classic drawers never had. Storage upgrades come in fewer types than before, and each one gives a much bigger boost.
Upgrades handle the automation side. A Pulling Upgrade pulls items out of an adjacent inventory, a Pushing Upgrade sends them the other way, and a Collecting Upgrade picks up items lying on the ground, which turns an ordinary drawer into a self-feeding collection point.
Beyond the standard drawers there is a Fluid Drawer for fluids, a Simple Compacting Drawer that works like a compacting drawer with only two slots, and an Armory Cabinet that stores 4096 non-stackable items by default and is accessed with external storage tools such as Applied Energistics or Refined Storage. A Storage Controller ties the wall together: drawers bound with the Linking Tool no longer need direct contact with it and can sit within an 8 block radius by default, Controller Extensions act as a controller of their own once linked, and Ender Drawers that share a copied frequency keep their contents synced.
