CustomSaveDirs frees singleplayer worlds from the single folder the game normally insists on. Instead of everything living in the saves directory beside the game files, you hand the mod a list of folders of your own and it reads and writes worlds there, which makes it straightforward to keep Minecraft worlds on another drive or split across separate collections.
Everything is set up in game. A Configure Save Directories screen sits behind the Options menu, and from there the small list of paths can be opened in a text editor. Absolute and relative paths are both accepted, a reload button picks up edits without closing the game, and a single click steps to the next valid folder in the list. If that screen’s button is missing, a taller window usually brings it back into view when other mods have crowded the menu.
The edge cases are handled predictably. Deleting the config or leaving the list empty returns the game to the default saves folder, and a fresh launch always starts from the first entry again. Switching folders while a world is open is deferred until that world has been saved and closed, so an active world is never split between two locations, and mods that track their own settings by folder name rather than full world path are worth watching when the directory changes.
