Extended Drawers takes the storage drawer idea and builds it into a system of simple components that stay powerful without becoming overpowered. Drawers hold a lot of a few item types and come as single-slot, double-slot and quad-slot blocks, and because they are cheap and effective they make up the bulk of a storage room. They can be used in world or automated with hoppers and pipes from other mods.
Around those basic drawers sit three smarter blocks. Access points interact with every drawer connected to them, which makes them a quick way to dump an inventory into the system or to hook up digital storage; they only support insertion in world, but pipes and hoppers can pull items back out. Shadow drawers show how much of a resource the whole network holds and allow insertion and expansion of it from far away, which is what centralised automation needs. Compacting drawers cost a little more to craft but compress and decompress items automatically through 2×2 and 3×3 recipes, and their capacity is based on the most compressed item stored.
Each drawer slot can be tuned on its own. Upgrades extend the capacity of a slot and a downgrade limits it, and because they apply to individual slots rather than the whole block you keep fine control over a wall of storage. A lock makes a drawer keep its selected item even when empty, so an emptied drawer does not lose its organisation and automation cannot fill it up, voiding mode throws away overflow of low-value items while making sure drawers without voiding fill up first, hidden mode hides the icons to reduce lag or keep valuables out of sight, and a dupe wand can switch a drawer into duping mode so it keeps providing items even when empty.
Almost everything is adjustable. There are separate client and shared config files for things like upgrade strength, all recipes and loot tables can be modified by datapacks, and a dedicated override format lets packs decide which items the compacting drawers handle and at what compression levels. An in-game guide book, crafted from a book and an upgrade frame and loaded through Patchouli, explains the whole system while you play. The mod runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1.
