Chat Heads fixes one of the small annoyances of multiplayer Minecraft: a wall of text where every line looks the same. The mod puts the speaker’s player head right in front of their message, so a busy chat turns into a list of faces you already recognize from the world around you. It is a purely visual change, and it looks genuinely good next to the vanilla chat.
Everything happens on the client, so the mod does not have to be installed on the server. It runs perfectly well on its defaults, and the settings screen becomes available once Cloth Config is present, with Mod Menu providing the entry point on Fabric.
The default settings do not work on every server. Where they fail, switching the sender detection to the heuristic only mode brings the heads back, with the trade off that a message may occasionally show the wrong face. One compatibility note is worth remembering: newer OptiFine builds do not work with this mod, so an alternative such as Sodium is the better companion.
