Vanilla campfire smoke rises in a plain straight column that pays no attention to anything around it. Better Smoke alters that particle emitter so the smoke flows in the wind instead, which is what finally makes campsites, chimneys and factory smoke stacks read as something actually burning underneath.
The effect scales with the build. The more campfires you place, the larger the plume becomes, so a lone fire gives off a modest trail while a cluster feeding a chimney or an industrial stack sends up a much heavier column. Wind itself is affected by the weather in game, so the smoke does not behave the same way in every condition.
Soul campfires get their own treatment: their plume is slightly darker and tints blue as it rises, keeping the eerie look of soul fire intact. The mod is lightweight, runs completely client-side and every part of it is configurable, which is worth knowing on weaker machines, since the sheer number of particles can be graphically heavy on low end hardware.
