Vanilla fishing asks for one right-click and a bit of patience. Stardew Fishing replaces that with an active minigame directly inspired by Stardew Valley: a small green bobber bar that you bump upward with clicks to keep it lined up with the fish. Hold it on target and the progress bar on the side fills, and once it is full the catch is yours.
How hard each fish is to land is fully data driven. A simple datapack sets the default behaviour for all fish and can override individual species, so rarer catches can be made much harder than common ones. Values such as top speed, acceleration and average move distance are all exposed, which means you can make the minigame as forgiving or as punishing as your world needs.
Optional integrations round the package out. Aquaculture fishing rods are supported along with difficulty entries for its fish, and with Quality Food installed the quality of what you reel in depends on how accurately you tracked the bobber, exactly like the game that inspired it. Neither of those mods is required, and anything that uses the vanilla fishing bobber works as well, including Better Fishing Rods, Fishing Real and Tactical Fishing.
