Crop Growth Modifier gives an entire world one dial for how quickly farms mature. Crops normally grow when a random tick lands on them and passes an internal roll; this mod rolls an additional time on top of that, so a tick chance of 0.5 lets only half of those ticks through and plants take roughly twice as long to ripen. Lower values push it further, with 0.25 landing near a quarter of vanilla speed.
Speeding things up works from the other direction. Leaving the tick chance at its default and raising the extra roll chance hands crops another attempt whenever growth might happen, and a chance of 0.5 works out to a cumulative 75 percent. Setting a cap on extra rolls is recommended, because a chance of 1.0 schedules a fresh tick for every tick that occurs.
Beyond the tick rate, the number of stages applied per successful growth event has its own minimum and maximum, so a crop can advance one step at a time or several at once. Bonemeal is handled separately through its own growth chance, which can be reduced for a more gradual effect or set to zero to remove bonemeal crop growth completely. Everything sits behind Cloth Config in the in-game mod menu.
