Silent Gear rebuilds tools, weapons and armor as modular gear that you assemble part by part. Every item starts from a main part, and almost any material used for vanilla tools and armor can go into it, along with the extra ores and metals the mod introduces. Metals commonly added by other mods, such as tin, silver or lead, are recognised as gear materials too, so a heavily modded world gives you far more to work with.
Crafting begins with a blueprint or a template. A blueprint is reusable, a template is consumed after one craft, and both are otherwise identical. Combine one with the right number of matching materials to build the main part, then add a rod for tools and melee weapons, or a rod and a cord for bows, crossbows and fishing rods. Armor is made from plates with an optional lining, elytra need wings plus a binding, and curios such as rings and bracelets are assembled with jeweler’s tools from metal parts and an adornment. Most vanilla items convert to their gear equivalent by placing them alone in a crafting grid.
Materials can be pushed further in the material grader, which assigns a grade from E up through S, SS, SSS and MAX. Each attempt burns one catalyst, and a higher tier catalyst makes better grades more likely, with re-grading available if the first roll disappoints. Later on, the metal alloyer, recrystallizer and refabricator merge up to four simple materials into compounds with a result preview before you start the work. Repair kits and anvils keep gear alive, while tip upgrades, coatings, bindings and grips adjust its stats.
World generation stays deliberately restrained. Wild flax grows in mountainous and plains-like biomes and its seeds produce plants that drop fibers and flowers, while wild fluffy plants appear in less dry biomes such as forests. Bort ore hides deep underground as single blocks and is needed for adornments, crimson iron fills the Nether, and azure silver waits in the End behind a high harvest level. Netherwood saplings found in loot chests grow fire-proof trees that drop nether bananas, and their logs smelt into netherwood charcoal.
