rpcDrive borrows an idea from 1980s software houses, where a more powerful computer was routinely used to write and debug programs for a weaker machine. In Minecraft 1.4.7 it wires RedPower 2 disk drives together with ComputerCraft computers, so Lua scripts can move data in and out of the 65EL02-based RP2 computer ecosystem.
Every RP2 disk drive is registered as a peripheral of type rp_drive. Floppies are handled in 128-byte sectors through an internal buffer of the same size, with sector numbers counted from one to match the way Lua works. The available calls check whether a disk is present, whether it holds data and whether it can be read from or written to, read and set its label, and report its serial number, written sector count and total sector size.
Sectors move in and out of the buffer one at a time and individual bytes inside that buffer can be read or written, which gives scripts byte-level control over disk contents. Floppies can also be erased or initialized on demand, and the mod installs a small rpc/drive utility that covers basic read, write and copy jobs on RP2 floppies without writing a script yourself.
