OpenComputers puts real programming inside the world. The computers you build run Lua 5.2 and 5.3, and their state is saved with the world, so a script picks up exactly where it stopped once the chunk loads again. Machines are assembled from tiered parts such as cases, screens, graphics cards and network cards, which gives the mod its own progression curve: a first computer is not a starting-day craft.
Around the stationary machines sits a whole family of devices. Robots move through the world, interact with it much like a player and can use tools, while drones trade power for mobility and can even leash animals. Servers pack four computers into a single block, microcontrollers are the cheaper and more limited option, and tablets make a computer portable. Motion sensors, a hologram projector that draws voxel 3D images and a 3D printer for custom decorative blocks round out the parts list.
Integration is one of its strengths. Bundled redstone from Project Red, RedLogic, BluePower and MineFactory Reloaded is supported, cables can be covered with microblocks, and power is accepted from RF, EU, Factorization Charge, Mekanism Joules and AE2. The Adapter block turns supported blocks from other mods into components your programs can read and command, and many mods ship built-in support of their own.
Almost everything can be tuned. The heavily documented config file lets you change or disable power requirements, adjust screen render distance and swap out recipe sets without an extra tweaking mod, including a hard mode recipe set for players who want the challenge. The mod is designed for survival play and works best alongside other mods that automate ore processing and crafting.
