Factorization is a technology mod built on minimalist parts that extend what vanilla redstone automation can do, and then keeps going well past it. Its content ranges from the practical to the spectacular: small robots that can be commanded, terracotta armies raised block by block, and spinning blades that live up to their name.
Progression does not start at a crafting table. The Lost Treasure Map was last seen near diamond ore, and these maps are both rare and fragile, so they need careful handling. Right-click one and follow where it points to a well-guarded stash on the surface, which holds a Logic Matrix Programmer and sometimes a few other useful materials. That programmer goes into the recipe for the Factorization Manual, the in-game book that teaches everything worth knowing.
Underneath all of it sits Hammer, short for Factorization Dimensional Slices, an engine upgrade that lets whole chunks be moved and rotated freely. It is what the Colossi and the Twisting Block are built on. Because it reaches so deep into the game it can clash with certain setups and other mods, so it can be switched off entirely from its own config file, and a troublesome colossus can be selected and removed with the commands the mod provides. Everything runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.6.4.
