RenderPearl is a very lightweight shader pack that taps into the newest Iris features, along with optional extensions available on various graphics drivers. Its aim is clean, pleasant visuals paired with excellent performance on modern hardware.
Distorted shadow mapping delivers smooth, colored real-time shadows and volumetric light. Block light is colored as well and comes with physically based reflections, combining a light list with vanilla lighting and average texture color, while each hand casts its own ray traced light. The highly optimized post-processing includes compute shader versions of contrast adaptive sharpening and SMAA 1x, plus automatic exposure and a choice of tone mapping operators. Waves and water opacity are adjustable, and handy built-in tools include light level visualization and a compass overlay.
Most built-in PBR information, including light colors, normals and roughness, is generated procedurally, so the pack should work well with most resource packs and mods. Resource packs can still supply their own LabPBR 1.3 smoothness and normal data. Distant Horizons and Voxy integration works on the latest game version, but it is experimental and very basic for now, with complete support planned for a future update. Mods that alter the Iris shader pipeline are also only experimentally supported and may cause issues such as the pack failing to compile.
The default settings and every profile value are meant to work on any system that meets the requirements: Iris with support for features such as compute shaders and SSBO, and graphics drivers with GLSL 4.60.8 or newer. A reasonably modern non-macOS device most likely has everything needed, though Iris and the drivers may need an update. The compatibility menu lets you chase higher performance and quality through options like light list capacity, 16/8-bit types and trinary min/max. If a value keeps the pack from compiling, resetting that option solves it.
