When the second GTA 6 trailer landed on May 6, 2025, it did more to define Grand Theft Auto VI than everything Rockstar had shown before it combined. Fifteen months on, it is still the most complete look at the game anyone outside the studio has had, and with a fresh showcase due on August 27, 2026, now is the moment to revisit what it actually showed.

A record-breaking launch
The backdrop is worth remembering. Four days earlier Rockstar had confirmed the game’s first delay, pushing GTA 6 out of its vague 2025 window and on to May 26, 2026 — a date that would later slip again, as we trace in our GTA 6 delay history — and the mood among fans was sour. Under three minutes of footage flipped it. The trailer drew more than 475 million views across platforms in the opening 24 hours, passing Deadpool & Wolverine‘s 365 million to become the biggest video launch of all time: not the biggest game trailer, the biggest video, full stop.
The technical small print mattered just as much. Rockstar stated the footage was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. That single line turned every frame into a benchmark, and Leonida’s sun-bleached streets, crowded beaches and storm-lit swamps held up to the scrutiny.
Jason and Lucia finally became real characters
Trailer 1 belonged to Lucia alone; trailer 2 belonged to the pair. Rockstar’s own material casts Jason Duval as an ex-Army drifter making rent on shady jobs around the Leonida Keys, while Lucia Caminos walks out of prison determined never to go back. A job that should have been simple falls apart, and the two end up bound together at the centre of a statewide conspiracy. The chemistry between them — half romance, half mutual risk assessment — carries the whole reveal, and our profile of Lucia and Jason digs deeper into both leads.
The same-day website blowout
The video was only half of it. That same morning Rockstar rebuilt the official GTA VI site with dozens of fresh screenshots, new artwork and proper introduction pages for the supporting cast — still the single largest information dump of the entire campaign. Six named characters arrived at once:
- Cal Hampton — Jason’s conspiracy-minded friend, happiest when monitoring Coast Guard radio chatter
- Boobie Ike — a Vice City street legend turned real-estate, strip-club and studio mogul
- Dre’Quan Priest — an ambitious producer running Only Raw Records alongside Boobie
- Real Dimez — Bae-Luxe and Roxy, a viral rap duo freshly signed to the label
- Raul Bautista — a seasoned bank robber with charm to spare and a crew to fill
- Brian Heder — a boatyard owner who lets Jason live on his property in exchange for favours
The location pages were just as telling, confirming that the map reaches far beyond Vice City into the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park — regions we break down one by one in our guide to Leonida’s locations.
How trailer 2 looks from August 2026
Hindsight has been kind to the trailer and less kind to the date attached to it: November 2025 brought a second delay, to the now-final November 19, 2026. The rest of the picture has filled in since. Rockstar announced pricing on June 24, 2026 — $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition — and opened pre-orders the following day.
Trailer 2 nevertheless remains the last full trailer Rockstar has put out, and that run has three days left in it. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is set for Thursday, August 27, and Rockstar is staggering the rollout: Netflix will carry it first at 3 p.m. ET, then Rockstar’s own YouTube channel and the GTA VI site pick it up at 9 p.m. ET the same evening. What will actually be inside it is still guesswork — our trailer 3 speculation piece weighs the likeliest candidates. Once the game ships and a GTA 6 modding scene takes shape, those mods will land here on CrashMods.
